Statistics released from the Employment Tribunals Service reveal that between 1st April 2009 and 31st March 2010 the number of claims relating to unfair dismissal, redundancy and breach of contract rose by 17%.

Perhaps largely the result of the economic climate, the statistics are worrying for employers who are increasingly likely to be faced with a tribunal claim.  The combination of increased awareness of employment rights and the difficulty in finding new jobs means that many ex employees don’t hesitate to place a claim if there is a chance of compensation.
