The formation of the Conservative – Lib Dem coalition has thrown up uncertainty as to what we can expect in terms of employment legislation over the next 4/5 years.
The manifestos of the two parties contained substantial differences but the Queen’s Speech, initial coalition agreement, and the Government’s programme have provided some clarification as to how these will be ironed out. Research has revealed that the recession has damaged the mental wellbeing of a large proportion of the UK workforce.
The research carried out by MIND found that prescriptions for antidepressants soared last year, with many of these being for work related stress. |

Research carried out by Drinkaware has revealed that more than ½ million people go to work with a hangover every day.

CIPD Calls for Working Time Regulations to be Scrapped |

The Working Time Regulations (WTR) are a hindrance to businesses and should be scrapped, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
The call comes despite the findings of joint survey of 800 employers by the CIPD and accountant KPMG where as many (just under 30%) said the WTR helped their businesses as hindered them; 40% felt they had no impact. |
